Sorcerer’s City

The Game

Sorcerers City is essentially a city building game. You use your own deck of tiles to build as fast as you can simultaneously during a timed build phase. The tiles include colors and some shields and the general idea is to create large areas of the same color encompassing the appropriate shields or meeting the other objectives of a shield.

However, each color relates to a different element and these elements reset each “year” (round). For example, yellow area equates to gold you can spend during the buy phase to buy additional tiles to add to your “deck,” but keep in mind you can only buy 2 tiles unless you have other bonuses so don’t rack up on this too much as it doesn’t carry over to the next round!

To add to this, after each “year” a different monster or creatures is added and they do various things but typically they shuffle into your tile deck and have to be played when drawn and can impact the city you’re building in negative ways – again depending on the type of creature.

The Review

We actually enjoyed this game and I think it will hit the table again. I think that now that we have played through it and understand it a bit more, the game will evolve and the strategy may change and it will add some replayability. Also, having the variety of monsters and the randomization of a shuffled tile deck allow for replayability as well.

The Result

We only played one round of this and Addie won with a score of 119.
