Spirits of the Forest

The Game

I don’t know how I would classify this game. It is played with 48 tiles set up in a 4 x 12 grid. You then claim tiles from either side of the “forest” meaning it has to be the end of the row. These tiles have spirit symbols and sometimes power symbols. These symbols are the dictator of end scoring and control of the forest. You can reserve some, but the strategy is to be sure you have the most of as many types of spirits as possible for scoring.

For each type of spirit and power where you have the most, you earn as many points as you have. If you have less than someone else, you earn no points, regardless of how many you have.

The Review

First thoughts were we must be missing something. To just take a tile or two each turn. It felt like either the pace should be much faster or something was missing in the play. All in all, it wasn’t a bad game. We both felt we would give it another try, but that at least as of yet, it wasn’t one of our top. I think our next try will be with the addition of another player and see how that changes it.

There is strategy as to which tile to take and with regards to placing your gemstones to “reserve” a space, but it didn’t seem to play out right to us. Maybe because there were 2 of us so we always were blocking each other vs having to divide the attention.
